Seun Kuti’s Defense Unveiled: Manager Reveals Police Officer’s Provocation Before Slap Incident on Third Mainland Bridge

Lagos, Nigeria – In a recent interview with Potpourri, Ayo Moses, the manager of renowned Afrobeat artist Seun Kuti, shed light on the incident that unfolded on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos. Ayo emphatically explained that Seun Kuti’s actions were a direct response to provocation from a police officer, which ultimately led to a physical altercation.

According to Ayo, the incident occurred when Seun Kuti was driving with his family on the Third Mainland Bridge. Out of nowhere, their vehicle was unexpectedly rear-ended by a police truck, which was being operated by an officer allegedly under the influence of alcohol. The impact of the collision had a profound impact on Seun’s young daughter, visibly shaking her with fear. Consequently, Seun felt compelled to pursue the truck, intercepting it and forcing it to come to a halt.

Upon exiting the vehicle, instead of offering an apology, the police officer engaged in a heated argument with Seun. This confrontation served as a catalyst for Seun’s decision to slap the officer in question. Ayo emphasized that Seun’s reaction was primarily driven by his instinct to protect his family from the perceived threat posed by the reckless behavior of the law enforcement officer.

Ayo expressed his belief that it is crucial for the Nigerian public to recognize that law enforcement officials can also be the instigators of conflicts with civilians. He urged security personnel not to assume an air of superiority or perceive themselves as immune to the consequences of their actions simply because of their uniforms.

“People should acknowledge that individuals in uniform can also provoke ordinary citizens. The privileges of their positions should not serve as an excuse for engaging in unlawful behavior,” Ayo stated emphatically.

Furthermore, Ayo disclosed that Seun Kuti has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Yaba. In his legal representation, Seun will be supported by Femi Falana, a highly respected veteran lawyer and prominent human rights activist, known for championing justice in various high-profile cases.

As the news of this incident continues to gain traction, it remains to be seen how the legal proceedings will unfold for Seun Kuti. However, the public sentiment appears to be leaning towards a critical examination of the actions and conduct of law enforcement officers, emphasizing the importance of accountability and equality before the law.
