MAYA Awards Africa has returned with the sixth edition of its annual award event that celebrates excelling youths across Africa. The nominees for the year 2018 edition have been announced as the award ceremony will take place on Sunday, November 18, 2018 at YARD 158, Oregun, Plot 34 Kudirat Abiola Way, Ikeja, Lagos.
According to the Convener of the prestigious award, Ademola Ajibola, MAYA AWARDS 6.0 will hold earlier than usual due to some calculated reasons.
In his words:
This edition, however, is shifting our awards calendar a bit earlier than usual, as February 2019 is already locked for elections into a new political dispensation across Nigeria, and January will be specifically a preparatory month for aspirants, political leaders and even the general public.
In light of this, the awards’ board decided that the MAYA AWARDS AFRICA 6.0 be brought forward to November 18, 2018, hence making it the first time, we will have 2 editions in 1 year.
This decision is to allow December calendar activities take their spots and also for March/April which is generally noted for Lent & Easter Celebrations. We will decide if to return to February or maintain November after this 6th edition.
The 6th edition promises to be the biggest and sweetest blend of music, fashion, comedy, paparazzi, recognition, networking and glitz. A lot of twists will be introduced to make you have a memorable and noteworthy experience, as nominees, guests and brand lovers.
Filing out the first nomination list which is subject to update before voting kicks off, the nominees are of two broad categories; Business and Entertainment categories.
Swanky Jerry, Sexy Steel, Jekwu The Stylist and few to mention will get to contest for the Fashion Stylist of the year in the Business Category. Also BBB Media, Media Panache, Emiralty Africa alongside others are up for the PR Management of the year.
Coming to the Entertainment category; One of Falz, Small Doctor. Kiss Daniel. Niniola. Reekado Banks, Mayorkun and Simi will emerge Music act of the year. MEX, Avalon Okpe, Unlimited L.A are main contenders for the Music Video Director of the year.
