The Rivers State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has penned an open letter to President Bola Tinubu, urging him not to yield to the manipulations of meddlesome interlopers seeking to enable former governor Nyisom Wike’s takeover of the party in the state.
In the letter, dated July 6th, the Rivers State branch of the APC emphasized that recognizing Wike would undermine the loyalty of party members who have remained steadfast in their support for the APC. The party also called on President Tinubu to reject Wike’s clandestine attempts to seize control of the party’s structures in the state.
Comrade Darlington Nwauju, the Publicity Secretary of the Rivers State APC, signed the letter, cautioning President Tinubu to be wary of Wike and his associates. The party highlighted that Wike’s current claims of working in favor of the APC would only undermine the dedicated and loyal members and stakeholders.
“We wish to clear the air that Gov Wike did not deliver any value to our dear Rivers State APC,” the letter stated.
Furthermore, the APC group recalled the severe acts of brutality perpetrated by the former governor against APC members and their families during the 2015 presidential election, resulting in numerous casualties. Despite facing these challenges, the Rivers APC resisted Wike’s aggressive onslaught against innocent party followers and members.
The Rivers State APC firmly resisted efforts to grant recognition to Wike following the party’s election victory in the state. “Dear Mr. President, we wish to clear the air that Gov Wike did not deliver any value to our dear Rivers State APC, rather he fought against our dear Rivers APC,” the party asserted.
The chapter implored President Tinubu, known for his consistent party loyalty and his commitment to practical people-oriented philosophy, to resist former Governor Wike’s infiltration as he lacks a political ideology and merely follows a predetermined script.
“We trust that your leadership will not allow individuals who engage in political thuggery, those who are notorious both locally and internationally for destabilizing our democratic stability and engaging in mischief, and whose primary motivation is monetary gain, to hijack our esteemed Rivers APC. They view party politics as a commodity to be traded,” the Rivers APC warned.
As the APC in Rivers State continues to guard against external interference, the party remains committed to upholding its principles and maintaining its strong presence in the state’s political landscape.
