The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, Bro. Felix Obuah has expressed fears that the threat of mass arrest of its members in the State has been made real with the illegal and secret arrest of the former Caretaker Committee Chairman of Khana Local Government Area, Hon. Sunny Bekanwa.
The party also alleged that former Governor Rotimi Amaechi has commissioned one Anosike from Omerelu with officers of SARS to trail and ensure that the Publicity Secretary of the PDP and Caretaker Committee Chairman of Ikwerre LGA, Hon. Samuel Nwanosike is arrested.
A statement by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the State PDP Chairman, Jerry Needam said Hon. Bekanwa and other members of the party still at large were arrested on Thursday by men of the State Anti-Robbery Squad, popularly called SARS.
Bro. Obuah said the PDP believes that the arrest of the party chiefs by men of the SARS was on the orders of the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Rivers South East, Mr. Magnus Abe who had been boasting that the APC would work in concert with INEC and security agencies to ensure victory for APC come Saturday, December 10, 2016.
The State PDP Chairman said the party condemns the arrest of its members and called on Ogonis and Rivers people at large to see the desperation of former Rivers Governor, Rotimi Amaechi who addressed a rally of APC supporters at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium on Thursday, making statements that would incite the youths into violence.
The PDP also calls on the families of those arrested by men of the SARS not to be deterred as the party is on top of the situation.
Bro. Obuah said the arrest and intimidation were gimmicks tended to cow PDP supporters into panic and urged them to remain strong, committed and go all out on Saturday and cast their votes for all PDP candidates.
