An elderly woman, identified as Sariyu Akanmu, was viciously attacked during the police’s arrest of the #RevolutionNow protesters in Osogbo, Osun State.
The youth in the area had defied the policemen who asked the protesters to disperse. About 30 in number, they stood their ground, singing protest songs for about two hours.
The security men seized the public address system and ordered them to fold their banners. The result was an ensuing clash between the police and the protesters. The former descended on the people and beat them up, firing gas canisters to disperse the crowd.
Among those brutalized by the police was Sariyu, who sells fufu. She was beaten by a policewoman while her male colleague hit her with his footwear.
Other victims caught in the melee were journalists and bystanders. DSS operatives also arrested 10 members of the #RevolutionNow group.
