In the Imo State presidential election, the Labour Party candidate, Peter Obi, has been declared the winner. The announcement was made by the Returning Officer, Prof. Charles Esimone, on Tuesday in Owerri.
According to Esimone, Obi received a total of 354,004 votes, defeating Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who came second with 66,171 votes. Atiku Abubakar, the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), received 30,044 votes, while Rabiu Kwankwaso of the NNPP received 1,536 votes. Esimone indicated that the results were compiled from the 26 Local Government Areas of Imo State, except for Njaba LGA, where results were not collated due to violence.
