The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has alleged that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was engaging in a conspiracy against it at the election tribunal.
The African Action Congress (AAC) candidate is challenging the victory of Governor Nyesom Wike at the polls.
According to the PDP, the Commission was yet to assign the defence of Rivers State governorship election to any of its counsel.
Chairman, Rivers PDP, Elder Felix Obua, said INEC deliberately refused to assign the case to any lawyer, knowing that entering of defence was time-barred.
“The plot is not to enter a defence until the expiration of the required time so that the tribunal would have a good excuse to cancel the governorship election”, Sun quoted him as saying.
“We are telling the whole world that INEC has not assigned the defence of the result to any lawyer as we speak,” he said.
Reacting, INEC National Commissioner of Information, Festus Okoye, said the commission would this week announce whether the body had been officially served, as well as give an update on external or internal solicitors to represent it at the tribunal.
