The State Working Committee (SWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue has taken action against its officials in Igyorov Council Ward for suspending the former National Chairman of the party, Senator Iyorchia Ayu. In a statement released by PDP Acting Chairman, Mr Isaac Mffo, and 12 others in Makurdi, it was announced that the ward executives have been suspended for one month. During this period, necessary measures will be taken to restore sanity, harmony, law, and order in the party.
The SWC noted that it would be administering the affairs of the party in the ward and insisted that the suspension was in the best interest of the party. The officials in question are also to cease acting in the offices they held prior to their suspension, as the SWC works towards restoring the party’s stability.
Ayu’s suspension was announced on March 28 by the local chapter of the PDP in his Igyorov Ward of Gboko Local Government Area of Benue. Vangeryina Dooyum, the Igyorov Ward Secretary, who represented its Chairman, Kashi Philip, cited Ayu’s anti-party activities during the recently held general elections across Nigeria as the reason for his suspension.
Additionally, on Monday, March 28, the Makurdi High Court issued an interim order restraining Dr. Ayu from “parading himself as the National Chairman of PDP.” The order was a result of an ex-parte application filed before the court by a PDP stalwart, Mr. Conrad Utaan, against Dr. Ayu and the PDP in a suit numbered MHC/85/2023.
In light of these developments, the SWC has taken decisive action to maintain order and unity within the party, with the ultimate goal of strengthening the PDP in Benue State.
