OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has pledged a personal donation of $1 million to President-elect Donald Trump’s inaugural fund, joining other tech giants in backing Trump’s administration as it prepares to take office. A spokesperson for Altman confirmed the donation to Fox News Digital, stating that it reflects his commitment to advancing American leadership in artificial intelligence.

“President Trump will lead our country into the age of AI, and I am eager to support his efforts to ensure America stays ahead,” Altman said in a written statement.

Altman’s contribution comes amid similar commitments from other tech heavyweights, including Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta Platforms and Jeff Bezos’ Amazon, which have each pledged $1 million to the Presidential Inaugural Committee.

A Vision for AI Leadership

Altman, known for revolutionizing the AI industry with the creation of ChatGPT, has emphasized the critical need for the U.S. to maintain its dominance in AI development. Speaking on “Fox News Sunday” earlier this month, Altman highlighted the importance of bolstering infrastructure to support AI innovation, particularly in light of competition with China.

“AI is a little bit different than other kinds of software in that it requires massive amounts of infrastructure, power, computer chips, data centers,” Altman explained. “We need to build that here, and we need to have the best AI infrastructure in the world to lead with the technology and the capabilities. I believe President-elect Trump will be very good at that.”

Altman added that the collaboration between the tech industry and the Trump administration could mark a pivotal moment in technological history, stating, “We very much believe that the United States and our allies need to lead this.”

Broader Industry Support

Altman is not the only tech leader to align with Trump’s administration. Mark Zuckerberg reportedly announced Meta’s donation during a Thanksgiving dinner at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate, while Bezos is contributing through Amazon. Other prominent tech figures backing Trump include Tesla CEO Elon Musk, Palantir co-founder Joe Lonsdale, and venture capitalist David Sacks.

Altman expanded on the significance of AI in national security during an interview with Fox Business, emphasizing that the technology could shape the future of defense strategies.

“This is incredibly high stakes. AI is here,” he said. “AI is going to impact a lot of what we do… The United States has got to lead in AI innovation. This technology is going to be used by our adversaries. We’ve got to use it to help defend American troops.”
