With residents still reeling from the aftermath of the tragic tanker fire incident in Onitsha, the city has been hit with a second.
This time, the occurrence happened around Omaba Phase two with the tanker falling in the middle of the Onitsha/Enugu Expressway at about 3.30 am today.
The news was confirmed by Emeka Obinwa, Executive Assistant to Governor Willie Obiano on Anambra State Emergency Management Agency (SEEMA) in a session with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Obinwa stated that the tragedy of the previous episode was averted as firefighters were on hand to quench the inferno.
The second fire outbreak in Onitsha within the week was equally severe, property worth several billions of naira including buildings, vehicles, and other valuable property were affected at Omaba Phase two. These recent tanker incidents in the country have become a major source of concern and road users no longer feel safe when plying the roads. Hopefully, the government will do something about it to ensure that lives will no longer be lost and Nigerians will begin to feel safe again.
