On March 16, 2023, the Olubadan-In-Council, which holds the highest traditional leadership position in Ibadanland, announced its endorsement of Governor Seyi Makinde for re-election in the Oyo State gubernatorial election. The declaration was made during a visit by members of the Council to the Governor in Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State.
According to the Council members, Governor Makinde’s accomplishments across the state were unparalleled and deserving of his re-election bid as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The Council’s support for Governor Makinde is a clear indication of his widespread acceptance and recognition by the traditional rulers who are considered important stakeholders in the governance of Ibadanland.
However, it is worth noting that the Otun Olubadan, High Chief Rashidi Ladoja was absent from the meeting. It is unclear whether his absence was due to prior engagements or a deliberate decision not to endorse the Governor’s re-election bid. Nevertheless, the Olubadan-In-Council’s endorsement of Governor Makinde is a significant boost to his campaign and a reflection of his remarkable achievements as the Governor of Oyo State.
