Bayern Munich have today completed the free transfer of signing Noussair Mazraoui on a contract that runs till the summer of 2026. The former Ajax defender was a big part of Erik ten Hag’s side that won three Eredivisie titles and two KNVB cup titles as well. Mazraoui has been widely favoured to join one of Barcelona or Bayern Munich but the defender agreed to personal terms with the German champions around last month. He was only waiting for the season to end and then make the announcement.

The 24-year-old has been a consistent player at right-back and is sometimes equated to the likes of compatriot Achraf Hakimi, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, among others. Mazraoui was signed for free so no discussions were held with Ajax regarding his transfer. It took him a while to decide between Bayern Munich and Barca and having joined the Bavarians, he is most likely to be their first choice right-back, with Benji Pavard featuring as a centre-back in recent matches.

The new contract sees Mazraoui earn an annual salary of eight million Euros, which can be broken down to around two hundred thousand Euros on a weekly basis. The Morocco international is excited about his new club and cannot wait to get started. ”I chose Bayern Munich because I can win the biggest titles here. I had a good feeling right from the first talks with the club.”

Mazraoui plays as a right-back and is known for his abilities in 1v1 situations and also for creating attacking options with his good deliveries into the opponent’s box to give the strikers a chance to score. The Morocco international was born in the Netherlands and represented the country at junior levels. However, he switched international allegiance to his North African land of descent and has made 12 appearances for the country and has scored twice. His international career has been halted due to personal reasons and internal sources believe it is because of Morocco’s head coach Vahid Halilihodzic.
