Just before the song, Nwa Baby dropped, we felt the hype was more than necessary. Davido being the noisemaker he is, couldn’t stop boasting on his Snapchat stories of the hit he’s making with the song.
Well, we finally got it and we were melted in some ways by the hotness of the sound and the visual.
Talk about the audio sound and production:
To begin with, Davido has recently developed a habit of putting two producers on the same music (of course, this is very much a new thing in the Nigerian Music Industry). Having Speroach Beatz and Fresh VDM work jointly on a sound is something that cannot be merely contained. It’s quite easy to make a blend as both producers are signed to DMW. This explains the interesting switch you might have noticed in between. On the first listening, one could tell Peruzzi has a hand in the songwriting but we’re less concerned, we just want it served hot!
To the video:
Meji Alabi of JM Films is not a newbie in the visual profession as the prolific cinematographer was able to deliver a masterpiece with Nwa Baby video. There is a perfect and interesting storyline in the close to 5-minutes video. After seeing this video, one can proudly say, there is a whole lot of evolvement in video production in Nigeria. Meji Alabi did a good justice to every scene portrayed in the video. At the intro of the video, the first few seconds reminded me of Olamide’s Kana video and I was almost pissed until I saw the change in direction.
To the acting; let’s talk Davido’s role and the shaku shaku:
Davido is just an unserious fellow when it comes to acting. He is always amused losing concentration on his acting. The same unseriousness in showed in Gobe video where he bursted into laughter at an awkward moment, he couldn’t conceal his wide grin in this video as well. He was just smiling unnecessarily. Aside that, he got the OG acting role pretty well. And for the black girl on the run, she held her role tight. She got the looks and the attitude. To add some toppings, he made some shaku shaku moves and when the cops came around looking for her, all the witness could recall about her what’s the dance yea – I mean that was pretty cool.
Davido goes to jail:
The last scene in the video, one week later after Davido’s arrest for being an accomplice is just dramatic and the scene that ushered in Davido behind bars shot is so typical of international prisons. Davido wears the serious look in prison, at least he didn’t mess it up like “Gobe” video and we could hear incoherent hailings from inmates saying “OBO! All the way from Naija, Sing ooh, all the way from Nigeria… Wey Chioma?”. That extra was really needed! Good end.
