The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) will resume the Abuja-Kaduna train services on May 23, 2022.
Bandits had bombed Kaduna-Abuja train, killed eight passengers and abducted several others.
However, a statement by its Deputy Director, Public Relations, Mr. Yakub Mahmoud, said the service will resume on Monday, May 23rd 2022.
The resumption is coming two months after the train was bombed by terrorists.
According to the statement, the service will return with greater security measures and without the early morning and the night train operations.
For the relatives of both citizens who were taken by force and whose lives are in peril, they should not misconstrue the resumption of train services as a lack of concern. The government will do everything to make sure their passengers are brought home safely, just as they promised.
It said the federal government will never abdicate its responsibility in rescuing these valuable citizens, and assured of its resolve not to succumb to threats by any faceless group
Organizations are taking additional security measures at train stations and the tracks to ensure safe passenger travel.
The new measures will apply not only to the Abuja-Kaduna Train Service, but also all standard gauge railway lines.
“The passengers are enjoined to cooperate with the NRC by strictly complying with additional measures that will surely be introduced for the safety of our passengers, such as asking for their National Identification Numbers (NIN) as part of our internal security check before boarding the train,” it said.
