The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has introduced a fee of N1000 for Nigerians residing in Nigeria who require National Identification Number (NIN) verification for their international passport application, renewal or issuance.
The NIMC has also announced that Nigerians residing in other African countries will pay $3 or its equivalent in other currencies while those residing in other continents will pay $10 or its equivalent for the same purpose.
This new arrangement is in compliance with the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy’s directive to streamline the processes of passport application, renewal, and issuance. In a statement by the Head of Corporate Communications at NIMC, Kayode Adegoke, it was stated that a framework had been agreed upon with the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) to improve the quality of service, accuracy, and speed of passport services by timely verifying the National Identification Number (NIN).
The statement further revealed that NIMC and NIS have agreed on a revised applicant journey that will enhance the speed of passport issuance and reduce the number of people visiting the NIS office(s). The NIN service, fees, and new NIS process will be operational from 1st April 2023.
