Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Nigeria’s President-elect, has called on Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), and other Presidential candidates who are dissatisfied with his victory to seek legal redress instead of resorting to violence.
Tinubu made the statement in his acceptance speech after winning the election with 8,805,655 votes, defeating Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi who polled 6,984,520 and 6,098,588 votes respectively.
Tinubu thanked God, his party, family, and the Nigerian people for electing him as their 16th president. He also extended an olive branch to his opponents, stating that they had been opponents but not enemies.
While acknowledging that some candidates may find it difficult to accept the election results, Tinubu emphasized that it is unacceptable to resort to violence in a process that can be challenged in court. He urged anyone who wishes to challenge the outcome of the election to seek legal recourse and not take to the streets.
Tinubu called for peace and unity among Nigerians, stating that his campaign was principled, peaceful, and progressive. He acknowledged that there were divisions among Nigerians that should not exist and urged everyone to come together to heal the wounds and bring calm to the nation.
