The ‘Over The Moon’ hitmaker reveals he moved to the U.S. after securing a job in New York
Popular Nigerian singer Sydney Esiri, better known by his stage name Dr Sid, has confirmed that he has relocated to the United States. The musician made the announcement during a recent appearance on the No Man’s Friend podcast, where he opened up about his decision to move abroad after securing a job in New York.
“I now live in the U.S. I left Nigeria last year after I got a job with a company in New York that offered me an opportunity to move to the States and live anywhere in the U.S.,” Dr Sid explained. He further shared that Houston, Texas, was his chosen destination because of family ties and his best friend’s residence in the city. “And that is it. I’ve been working here for the last one year and a half,” he added.
Dr Sid rose to prominence in 2002 as part of the Nigerian music collective Da Trybe, featuring on the hit track ‘Oya’ alongside notable artists like Sasha, 2-Shotz, Timi, DEL, and the Trybesmen (Eldee, Kb, and Freestyle). His debut solo single, Don’t Stop, was released the following year, but he later took a brief break from music to complete his university education and became a qualified dentist.
Afterward, Dr Sid moved to the UK, where he collaborated with artists such as JJC & the 419 Squad, Felix Duke, KAS, and others. He began working on his first studio album Prognosis in 2005, but the project was eventually shelved.
In 2007, he made the significant decision to quit his dental practice after three years and focus solely on music. He signed with Don Jazzy’s Mo’ Hits Records, releasing his debut studio album Turning Point in 2010, which featured hit songs like Over The Moon and Pop Something. Following the split between D’banj and Don Jazzy at Mo’ Hits Records in 2012, Dr Sid joined Don Jazzy’s newly formed Mavin Records, where he released his sophomore album Siduction in 2013.
Apart from his musical career, Dr Sid also ventured into acting, making his debut in 2014 with the film The Last 3 Digits, directed by Moses Inwang, where he starred alongside Nonso Diobi as an NYSC corps member.
