The Niger State Government has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew in the state.

Niger State Governor, Abubakar Bello declared a curfew in Lambata, Gurara Local Government Area (LGA) of the state, following a violent clash that led to the killing of the village head of Lambata, Mohammed Abdulsafur.

His directives are contained in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Ahmed Matane, on Sunday in Minna.

Matane added that the governor directed that the curfew be imposed on Lambata Town from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am beginning from Sunday, January 15th, 2023 till further notice.

He also disclosed that the restriction was to assist the security agencies to stabilise the situation in the area, save lives, and enable the restoration of law and order.

According to Matane, “The Government has condemned in strong terms the violence and act of lawlessness that has occurred in Lambata Town.”

The state government called on the residents of the area to cooperate with the security agents in the urgent task of restoring peace in Lambata, while urging security agencies to ensure the enforcement of the curfew, the statement added.
