Two Army officers have been reportedly arrested in connection with abduction of Margaret Emefiele, wife of the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin.

According to PremiumTimes, the officers, Musa Maidabara, a corporal and Edwin George attached to the 322 Artillery Regiment and 371 Artillery Regiment respectively in Maiduguri were arrested with about ₦15 million with them and other material possessions. Recall that Mrs Emefiele was kidnapped along Benin-Agbor Road on September 29, 2016, alongside four others including her police detail.

The Emefieles reportedly parted with a large amount of money as ransom.

According to the report, officer George was arrested at his hometown in Otukpo, Benue state while Maidabara was arrested along Benin-Asaba Road.

It was gathered that Maidabara visited his brother, also a soldier, at 14 Field Engineer Regiment, Onitsha, Anambra State, with whom he kept all the money where operatives later recovered them, sources said. They also had two Honda Accord cars with them at the time of their arrest. But the Nigerian army is yet to confirm the report just as the police have also declined official comment.

Meanwhile men of the Nigerian army attacked some armed bandits involved in livestock rustling, armed banditry and kidnapping in the northwest geo-political zone of the country.
