Nigerians, and by extension their businesses, spend around 7 trillion naira per year on power generation, renewable energy expert Stephen Ogboko said.

Ogboko, also Executive Director and COO, Off-Grid Tech Solutions Ltd., made this known during a virtual press conference in Lagos.

He spoke on the topic: “Analyzing the benefits of technological innovation”.

According to him, it is inefficient, expensive, noisy, polluting and of poor quality.

He said inadequate power supply had been a major challenge for businesses across the country, forcing them to source alternative power for their operations.

The Executive Director said: “Nigeria is among the countries with a very high need for electricity.

“A significant portion of the economy is powered largely by small-scale generators and nearly 50% of the population has little or no access to the grid.

“This could be effectively addressed with the deployment of off-grid renewable energy solutions by making electricity more cost effective and environmentally friendly. “

He described renewable energy from off-grid resources as sustainable and profitable for farmers and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Ogboko stated that Off Grid Tech Solutions Ltd. partners with global innovators of off-grid solutions to deliver reliable solutions.

He said: “These are cost-effective and sustainable solutions to societal problems aimed at improving the lives of people in developing countries.

“Our team of experts have worked across Africa and continue to work to provide solutions to a variety of sectors.

“We have been marketing and delivering smart off-grid solutions for many years, delivering permanent, efficient, secure and affordable solutions. “

Ogboko said the company specializes in marketing heat lamps and incubators, gas air conditioners and refrigerators, solar-powered mobile-box power solutions, pressure cookers, among others.

He said notable partners in the initiative were the Federal Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD), the United Kingdom’s Department of International Trade (UK-DIT), the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Buckler Group and Tywit.

The Nigeria News Agency (NAN) reports that off-grid renewable energy solutions support expanding access to modern energy services in an environmentally sustainable manner.

Off-grid renewables will provide a wide range of electrical services for households, utilities and also serve commercial and industrial purposes.

Off-grid energy solutions are one of the main drivers of the country’s industrialization push.
