On March 27, the Acting Chief Judge, Justice Umar Abubakar, inaugurated Alhaji Shuaibu Ibrahim as the new Acting Chairman of Aliero Local Government Area of Kebbi, following the impeachment of the former chairman, Alhaji Shuaibu Aliero, for gross misconduct.

The ceremony took place in Birnin Kebbi, where Abubakar administered the oath of office and allegiance to the newly appointed acting chairman and Acting Vice Chairman, Abubakar Ibrahim, to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

According to the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Babale Umar-Yauri, the impeachment was carried out in accordance with the local government law of the state. The law empowers councillors of the local government council with a two-thirds majority to remove the chairman of the local government for gross misconduct. Umar-Yauri explained that the councillors of Aliero local government had complied with this law when they removed Shuaibu Aliero on March 27 for gross misconduct.

Governor Atiku Bagudu supervised the swearing-in and advised the newly elected acting chairman and vice-chairman to abide by the necessary legislation and stipulations under the local government law in the discharge of their duties. Bagudu urged them to govern with the fear of Allah and seek his protection in steering the affairs of the local government, adding that he prayed to Allah to bestow wisdom on leaders at all levels of governance in the country. Alhaji Sama’ila Yombe-Dabai, the Deputy Governor, represented Bagudu at the ceremony.
