Labour Party Senatorial Candidate and PDP House of Reps Candidate's Driver Killed in Enugu State

Enugu state is experiencing tension following the reported killing of Barr. Oyibo Chukwu, the Labour Party senatorial candidate for Enugu East Senatorial District. Chukwu, along with other occupants of his branded Sienna bus, was reportedly shot and killed on Wednesday night at Amechi road in Enugu South Council of the state while returning from a campaign trip in Agbani.

The driver of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) House of Representatives candidate for Enugu South and North constituency, Hon Offor Chukwuegbo, was also killed by gunmen reportedly shouting “No election in Biafra land” along the same axis.

The campaign vehicle belonging to Chukwuegbo that he was driving was also set ablaze in the incident. Lucky Chukwu, the younger brother of the Labour Party candidate, expressed his sadness about the incident, stating that he was returning home after a campaign tour.

The Governorship candidate of the Labour Party, Chijioke Edeoga, confirmed the story and stated that the entire occupants of the Sienna car were burnt to ashes. Chukwuegbo, who confirmed the killing of his driver, believes that the gunmen may have attacked him before running into the Labour Party candidate. However, while those who attacked his driver rode on a tricycle, those who attacked the Labour Party candidate rode on a Hilux vehicle.
