In a shocking incident that unfolded on Monday, the Ebonyi Police Command has confirmed the tragic killing of a police inspector at a checkpoint in Abakaliki. Suspected gunmen launched a brazen attack, leaving the officer dead and two other police personnel with severe bullet wounds. The news was disclosed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, during a press statement provided to journalists in Abakaliki on Tuesday.
According to eyewitness Philip Onwe, who spoke to reporters, the horrifying incident occurred when the assailants opened fire indiscriminately at the checkpoint. The targeted police inspector, along with two of his colleagues, sustained gunshot injuries during the attack. Unfortunately, the inspector succumbed to his wounds and tragically lost his life.
SP Onome Onovwakpoyeya assured the public that the police command is fully aware of the incident and is actively working on releasing an official press statement to provide more details. “I am currently in the process of preparing a comprehensive press statement, which will be made available to the media once it is finalized,” stated Onovwakpoyeya.
