Renowned Afropop and Banku music sensation, Oluwatosin Ajibade, popularly known as Mr Eazi, has recently made an exciting announcement that is set to captivate fans and art enthusiasts across the globe. The talented artist has revealed plans for a groundbreaking art and music collaboration, bringing together 13 gifted artists from various African countries, all of whom will contribute to his highly anticipated debut studio album.
Each track on the upcoming album will be accompanied by a captivating art piece, thoughtfully crafted by these talented artists. The fusion of music and art is expected to evoke intense emotions, offering audiences a multi-sensory exhibition experience that will be showcased in three major cities – London, Lagos, and New York.
The diverse group of artists collaborating with Mr Eazi hails from countries such as Benin, Cameroon, Nigeria, Mozambique, Kenya, South Africa, Senegal, and Togo, making it a truly pan-African venture. This ambitious project aims to bridge the gap between the explosive African pop music scene and the continent’s fine art creators, fostering a unique and authentic connection between the two creative realms.
Mr Eazi’s upcoming album is set to be a musical masterpiece, delving into deeply personal themes such as love, betrayal, loneliness, and family. Acting as a musical scrapbook, the album will feature a plethora of collaborations, seamlessly blending Afrobeats, Afropop, Gospel, Hiplife, Highlife, and folklore into a refreshing and organic pan-African fusion.
The journey leading to this innovative project spanned two years and multiple countries, allowing Mr Eazi to build meaningful relationships with the visual artists whose work resonated with him. Recognizing the untapped potential for synergy between the African pop music scene and fine art creators, the singer-songwriter decided to join forces with 13 talented artists to elevate the album’s overall experience. Each artist was granted true creative freedom, inspired by the music itself, to create art pieces that would perfectly complement the album’s narrative.
The financial backing for this groundbreaking project comes from Choplife IP, a company founded by Ajibade himself, which focuses on investing in various facets of African culture, from music to film. This initiative aims to empower and support African artists, ensuring their work reaches a global stage.
Additionally, Mr Eazi is set to collaborate with the prestigious 1-54 contemporary African art fair, where the London leg of the exhibition will be hosted. The collection will be a part of the fair’s special projects section, scheduled for October. This collaboration is being lauded as a commendable effort to spotlight emerging African artists on an international platform.
Mr Eazi, an artist with an impressive track record, is widely known for his Afrobeats classics such as ‘Skintight’ (2016) and ‘Leg Over’ (2017), as well as his critically acclaimed mixtape series ‘Life is Eazi’ (2017 – 2018), and EPs ‘One Day You’ll Understand’ (2020) and ‘Something Else’ (2021). Throughout his career, he has collaborated with a plethora of international superstars, including Beyoncé, J Balvin, Bad Bunny, Burna Boy, and Nicki Minaj.
