Messaging Platform Faces Repeated Sanctions in Russia
Moscow court has fined Telegram Messenger four million rubles (approximately 41,400 U.S. dollars) for refusing to delete information deemed illegal in Russia. The court found Telegram guilty of an administrative offence for failing to remove content as required by Russian law, according to a statement from the court’s press service.
Although the court did not specify the nature of the prohibited content, this is not the first time Telegram has faced sanctions in Russia. In August 2024, the messaging platform was fined the same amount for a similar violation.
With around 900 million users globally, Telegram is one of the leading messaging platforms in the world, holding significant influence within Russia.
