The president’s congratulatory message was contained in a statement issued by his spokesman, Mr. Femi Adesina on Tuesday in Abuja.

The President rejoiced with the former Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom, whose antecedents in government, politics, and diplomacy will further shape and strengthen relations with Nigeria and other nations.

He said the shared ties between Nigeria and Britain remain strong, positive, and mutually beneficial while working with Truss to deepen that relationship in the interest of both countries.

TalkGlitz Media reported Liz Truss won after a closely-contested race with Rishi Sunak, former UK chancellor. She polled 81, 326 votes representing 57.4 percent of the votes cast by Conservative Party members while Mr. Sunak polled 60,399 representing 42.6 percent of the votes cast.

Buhari, however, appreciated the warmth and friendliness of the immediate past Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, wishing him the best in his future endeavors.
