The Middle Belt Forum (MBF) has expressed disappointment at President Muhammadu Buhari’s recent comment about potentially relocating to Niger Republic after the end of his term on May 29th. The MBF considers this comment to be evidence that the President is not committed to Nigeria.
During a recent Sallah homage to the President by FCT residents led by the Minister, Mohammed Bello, President Buhari stated that he “can’t wait to go home to Daura” and that “if they make any noise to disturb me in Daura, I will leave for the Niger Republic.”
This comment has sparked widespread reactions from Nigerians who interpreted it as evidence of the President’s lack of interest in addressing the country’s current state of insecurity, economic decline, and widespread corruption.
The MBF’s National President, Dr Bitrus Pogu, expressed disappointment over the President’s statement, stating that it shows that the President was never committed to Nigeria in the first place. Dr Pogu stated that a Nigerian President who has served the country should remain committed to the country and its citizens, even after leaving office. He noted that the President’s comment is an indication that he does not believe in Nigeria and her problems.
Dr Pogu went on to state that Nigerians deserve a President who is committed to the country, who will remain committed to Nigeria and its citizens, and who will not run away from the country when things become tough. He noted that Nigeria is facing significant challenges, including insecurity, economic decline, and a lack of basic amenities.
These challenges have resulted in high inflation rates, high unemployment numbers, and widespread poverty, leading to an increase in the number of people who are desperate to leave the country.
In recent years, insecurity has continued to ravage different parts of the country, with banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism spreading rampantly. The government has been struggling to address these issues, and the President’s comment has raised concerns about his commitment to solving these problems.
The MBF’s statement highlights the need for the government to remain committed to addressing the country’s challenges, including insecurity, economic decline, and corruption. Nigerians deserve a government that is committed to addressing these challenges and ensuring that the country and its citizens can thrive.
