According to a recent news report, a fire broke out at a paint shop located in Ilorin last Saturday, resulting in the destruction of two adjacent residential buildings and the loss of properties worth an estimated N39 million. In addition to the two houses, the fire also consumed five other nearby shops.
Hassan Adekunle, the spokesperson for the Kwara Fire Service, confirmed that the fire was first noticed in the paint shop, and quickly spread to the two adjacent buildings, which included a storey building and a bungalow. The Kwara Fire Service was immediately alerted, and firefighters were dispatched to the scene to put out the flames.
Despite their efforts, the fire had already caused significant damage to the two residential buildings and the surrounding shops. However, the firemen were able to successfully contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to other nearby structures.
Mr. Adekunle emphasized that the intensity of the fire was due in large part to the highly flammable nature of the paints in the shop. He added that the fire could have been contained earlier if bystanders had alerted the fire service promptly.
Mr. Falade Olumuyiwa, the Director of the Kwara Fire Service, also reminded residents of the importance of practicing fire safety measures. He urged them to always switch off electrical appliances when leaving their homes or going to bed to prevent fire accidents from occurring.
In conclusion, it is important for all individuals to prioritize fire safety in their daily lives, and to promptly alert the appropriate authorities in case of an emergency to prevent significant loss of life and property.
