Manchester City have turned their attention to signing a midfielder in the summer transfer window. With Fernandinho still unsure on signing an extension at the Etihad, Pep Guardiola has identified Leeds United’s Kalvin Phillips as a suitable replacement for the city captain.
Phillips, 25, is also arousing interest in the Premier League with Aston Villa ready to bid up to £50m for the England international. Phillips has been injured for the better part of this season but many clubs are convinced of his abilities at the top level.
Manchester City are yet to make a formal bid as Guardiola believes Fernandinho will sign at least a one-year deal.
