A suspect being taken into custody in Croydon, South London shot and killed a police officer.
According to Metro, it is believed that the suspect turned the gun on himself after fatally wounding the male custody sergeant just after 2 am on Friday, September 25, 2020.
A 23-year-old man was detained at the scene of the Croydon Custody Center and has been taken to the hospital for treatment. The police say he remains in critical condition.
A statement from the Met Police reads:
“One of our police officers has sadly died after being shot by a man who was being detained in police custody early this morning in Croydon. Officers are in the process of informing members of the officer’s family.”
