Liverpool secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Wolves in the West Midlands, with Ibrahima Konate scoring his first Premier League goal and Mohamed Salah netting the winner from the penalty spot. Despite an unconvincing performance, Jurgen Slot’s side extended their positive run this season.

In a match marked by defensive mistakes, Liverpool initially took the lead through Konate just before halftime. Wolves equalized shortly after Rayan Ait-Nouri’s goal was confirmed by VAR, but the joy was short-lived as they conceded a penalty less than a minute later. Salah calmly converted from the spot, ensuring the Reds walked away with all three points.

Wolves’ defensive struggles were once again on display, as they failed to keep a clean sheet for the 18th consecutive Premier League match. Their last shutout came in a 1-0 win against Sheffield United back in February, leaving manager Gary O’Neil under growing pressure. With just one point from their opening matches, Wolves face a tough stretch of fixtures, including a daunting encounter with Manchester City after the international break.

Liverpool, meanwhile, continue to benefit from a relatively favorable schedule, having only faced one top-half side from last season. They’ll face tougher tests against Arsenal and Chelsea in the coming weeks, which should provide a clearer picture of their progress under Slot.

Despite the victory, Liverpool looked sluggish at times, especially in the first half. Wolves goalkeeper Sam Johnstone made a key save to deny Dominik Szoboszlai from close range, but he could have done better with Konate’s header in stoppage time. Wolves also missed chances to equalize, with Jorgen Strand Larsen failing to prevent Diogo Jota’s cross and Santiago Bueno misjudging a crucial moment, allowing Konate to capitalize.

Wolves’ Mario Lemina nearly handed Salah another goal with a poor back pass, but the Egyptian failed to find the net with an open goal in front of him.
