Tory Lanez’s dropped of his new album Memories Don’t Die. The album was a lit one but it lacked enough sauce even if top acts like Future, Nav, Wiz Khalifa, 50 Cent, and more were on it. Tory later confirmed Nicki Minaj was originally featured on the project.
Lanez touched on the reason why Nicki was scrapped out in the album’s closing track, “Don’t Die”: “I may have fuvked it up with Nicki right before this album,” he revealed.
Shortly before Memories Don’t Die dropped, Lanez spoke about his collaboration with Nicki and how a text message led to their falling-out..
“She was on ‘Shooters’ originally,” he told
HotNewHipHop . “She was on the record first, and I was telling her something about the verse, I wasn’t saying it was bad or anything, her verse was incredible, and I’m also like a super-Nicki fan […] I was texting her, and it may have came off in a different way, she probably read it in a different way than I said it.
“I think it maybe kinda came off a little bit arrogant, or I kinda said something I shouldn’t have said about her verse, and she was like, ‘Well, n*gga, it’s not that serious, take my verse off the thing.’ We was like, aight. I love Nicki Minaj when it comes down to her music and the whole thing, but I’m not a reacher. Once a n*gga says it’s quiet, it’s quiet.”
Disappointing news, for sure. But thanks to internet, fans no longer have to wonder what a Nicki-assisted “Shooters” would sound like as the original version has surfaced online..
The Pinkprint artist handles the second verse, singing:
All I wanna do is go out trappin’ with the girls
They say we bad, I say we some murderers
New bae alert, we ain’t fuvkin’ with the clowns
Didn’t I just tell ’em to go turn they goofy down?
She then closes out the track in the fourth verse:
I’m just flexin’ too hard
He think he gettin’ that Minaj
Every time we come out, sh!t lit I might just go an’ upgrade his bitch
I’ma need a driver and a shooter
I’ma need the G5 to Bermuda
If that n!gga put you in a Uber
He might as well put you on a scooter
