Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has dropped Lionel Messi, the renowned Argentine superstar, from their squad to face Troyes on Sunday, despite his recent apology for his unauthorised trip to Saudi Arabia.
Last week, PSG lost to Lorient during the weekend, and Messi was expected to attend training on Monday. However, the club received reports that he had flown to Saudi Arabia to discuss personal business, which led to his suspension for two weeks upon his return. During this time, Messi will not be able to utilize the club’s training facilities.
On Friday, Messi apologized to the club and his team-mates for his actions in a video posted on Instagram. However, PSG has maintained their decision to suspend their talisman, and he will not be included in the squad for the upcoming match against Troyes. It is also likely that he will not be included in the squad for the match against Ajaccio next week.
Christopher Galtier’s side will play their final games of the season away to Auxerre and Strasbourg, before hosting Clermont in the last fixture of the league season. Messi is expected to be involved in those three matches before his contract expires on June 30.
Messi’s absence will be a huge blow to PSG’s hopes of winning the league title. The team is currently second in the table, one point behind Lille, with just three games remaining. PSG will be hoping to secure maximum points from these games to have a chance of winning the title.
