Lagos State Governor Bababjide Sanwo-Olu has ordered the State Ministry of Education to investigate an incident in which a student was allegedly expelled from Odomola Junior Secondary School in Epe for using a poster of Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi to cover her books.
The event came to light after an exeat letter, purportedly signed by the school’s principal, was circulated, indicating that Barinada Marvellous was sent home for using Obi’s poster to wrap her books.
Responding to the issue, Commissioner for Education Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo stated that the governor has approved the recall of the principal for questioning about the incident. She emphasized that the Lagos State Government and the Ministry of Education would never endorse such actions by school staff.
Adefisayo reassured the public that the matter would be addressed in accordance with strict regulations, as the reason for sending the student home, if true, is unacceptable.
Additionally, she mentioned that a separate principal at Odonguyan, caught on camera promoting her political preference to students, has been subjected to appropriate disciplinary actions. Adefisayo emphasized that the Ministry operates a public school system free from political influences.
A thorough investigation will be conducted, and any guilty party will face disciplinary measures as outlined in civil service rules, according to Adefisayo.
