The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has disclosed that the ongoing 50% discount on BRT (Bus Rapid Transport) fares throughout the state will conclude on Sunday, November 5, 2023.
This reduction in transportation costs was originally proclaimed by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on August 2, 2023, affecting all routes served by the BRT system.
LAMATA, through an official statement, has urged commuters to prepare accordingly ahead of the impending deadline. After this cutoff date, BRT fares will return to their regular rates, in accordance with the governor’s initial announcement.
The agency conveyed this information through a communication released on Saturday. The statement conveyed, “The 50% transportation fare discount offered within the regulated transport system in Lagos will terminate on Sunday, according to an announcement made by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority.”
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu initially unveiled the 50% fare reduction on August 2, 2023. Commencing from Monday, November 6, 2023, the public should expect the transport fares to revert to the rates in place before the announcement on August 2, 2023.
Additionally, LAMATA has revealed plans to introduce a new off-peak fare structure, designed to provide commuters traveling outside of the early morning peak hours with a discounted rate on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and Blue Line train services.
