In a bold statement released today, the Labour Party (LP) has expressed its determination to resist the attempts made by President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to utilize ministerial and board appointments as a means to legitimize what the LP claims is a stolen mandate. The LP, alongside its members and Presidential candidate, Peter Obi, remains focused on their objective.
Obiora Ifoh, the National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, spoke exclusively to Vanguard in Abuja on Thursday, shedding light on the party’s stance in response to the recent news of President Tinubu’s letter to state governors, urging them to nominate candidates for ministerial and other board appointments from their respective states.
“We are fully aware of the subtle maneuvers by the APC and President Tinubu, as they attempt to undermine our unity through various tactics, hoping to weaken our resolve in reclaiming the mandate freely bestowed upon Peter Obi and his running mate, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, on February 25, 2023,” stated Ifoh.
He emphasized the unwavering commitment of the Labour Party to stay on course, undeterred by any distractions, and vigorously pursue the retrieval of their allegedly stolen mandate. The party has taken their case before the Tribunal, providing substantial evidence and compelling arguments to support their claims.
“I can confidently assure you that the majority of Nigerians stand firmly by our side, as they have astutely discerned the desperate measures employed by the APC to validate what they are acutely aware is a pilfered mandate,” added Ifoh.
With the Labour Party firmly grounded in their determination, it remains to be seen how the political landscape will be shaped by their ongoing legal battle and the response from President Tinubu and the ruling APC. The eyes of the nation remain fixated on the unfolding events, awaiting the outcome of this contentious dispute over the legitimacy of political power in Nigeria.
