Prof Lilian Orogbu, the Labour Party candidate for Awka North and South Federal Constituency of Anambra State, has won the election, according to the returning Officer for the Constituency, Dr Uche Nriagu. The result was announced at the INEC Collation Center in Amawbia-Awka on Monday night, where Orogbu was declared the winner after polling 34,713 votes. Orogbu defeated her closest rival, Mr Obi Nwankwo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), who secured 24,814 votes.
The other candidates’ scores are as follows: Emeka Igwe, PDP (21,850), YPP (2047), NNPP (244), ADC (108), NRM (33), SDP (43).
Following her victory, Prof Orogbu, who is also a lecturer at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, pledged to fulfill her social contract with the constituents by offering quality representation. She dedicated her victory to God and reiterated her commitment to effect changes from old to new order while extending her hands of fellowship to her opponents.
