The Kwara State Police Command in Nigeria has received arms and ammunition from the Inspector General of Police, Alkali Baba Usman, in preparation for the forthcoming Saturday governorship elections.
The command expressed appreciation to the IGP for the provision of equipment such as PASG (Pump Action Shotguns), Long-and shotgun-range riot gunners, hand grenades, rubber bullets, smoke pistols, body armour, and utility vehicles to strengthen the security arrangements for the elections. In addition to these items, the command also received PMS and diesel to fuel its vehicles.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Okasanmi Ajayi, released a statement on behalf of the state commissioner of Police, Paul Odama, warning criminal elements and political thugs to desist from any activities that could disrupt the peace before, during, and after the elections. The command emphasized that anyone who attempts to undermine the security arrangements put in place would face the full force of the law.
The public was also advised to comply with all relevant laws and regulations announced by the authorities, including any restrictions on vehicular movements on the day of the election.
CP Paul Odama, psc (+), reassured the people of Kwara State that security agencies in the state are well-prepared and ready to ensure that the gubernatorial and house of assembly elections on March 18, 2023, are conducted peacefully and credibly. At an emergency meeting held with heads of security agencies, it was resolved that all agencies would work together in synergy to provide adequate security and ensure peaceful and acceptable elections across the state.
