The state government said the curfew was put in place to avoid a breakdown of law and order “following tensions generated from the collation of results of the governorship and state assembly elections”.

Muhammad Garba, the commissioner for information and internal affairs, announced the curfew on Monday morning.

He said the decision was to prevent hoodlums from causing chaos in the “already tensed situation”.

The commissioner asked residents “to remain indoors as security agents would not spare anyone or group bent on causing trouble”.

TalkGlitz had reported that the INEC declared Abba Yusuf, candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) winner of the governorship election in Kano State.

Abba Yusuf secured 1,019,602 votes to defeat Gawuna, who serves as deputy governor of the state, and also Abdullahi Ganduje’s anointed candidate who polled a total of 890,705 votes to come second.
