Jesse Marsch is set to be the next manager of Southampton FC, replacing Nathan Jones, who was sacked on Sunday. Marsch was recently sacked by Leeds United following a seven-game winless run in the Premier League, which left the club just above the relegation zone on goal difference. Despite Southampton sitting at the bottom of the league, four points from safety, Marsch is excited about the club’s project and is keen on a return to management.

Although there are still some details to work out, if the discussions end positively, Marsch could be in place before the club’s next game against Chelsea this weekend. Sky Sports News reported that Marsch would be happy to sign a short-term deal, which is also suitable for Southampton.

The Southampton board considers Marsch as someone with positive energy that can be injected into the group, and his recent Premier League experience is an advantage. Marsch was also instrumental in Leeds United avoiding relegation last season.

However, Marsch faced criticism from some Leeds fans, who believed he was not the right fit for the team. Marsch won only 11 of his 37 games as Leeds manager, with two wins in the last 17 matches. Leeds United owners believed that they had to make a change to avoid relegation to the Championship, which would have been disastrous for the club after investing a lot of money in their squad. The owners hope to find a new manager very quickly to help the team get back on track.

Southampton’s next match after Chelsea is against Leeds United on February 25, where Marsch will face his former team for the first time since his dismissal.
