7 De Mayo
Song by J Balvin
Produced by Tainy
Released: 7 May 2021
“7 De Mayo” is the song with which J Balvin makes the premiere of his documentary The Boy From Medellín, exclusive to Amazon Prime Video and in which he seeks to portray the most important moments in the artist’s life, while at the same time documents the performance of one of the most important concerts in the artist’s career, “El Niño De Medellín” at the Atanasio Girardot stadium.
The main theme of “7 De Mayo” is a journey through the life of José, beginning from his birth in 1985 and recounting how his childhood, adolescence and youth were, to later lead to his entrance to maturity, which goes hand in hand with his musical rise and subsequent worldwide fame as a Latin icon.
To give it a more personal touch, Balvin uses slang used in his hometown, Medellín, and mentions the places where he spent his childhood, icons he had during his life and people who accompanied him at different stages of his life, such as his friend. DJ Pope and his ex-girlfriend Katherine Muriel.
The single is named after Balvin’s birthday and was released on the same day in a surprising way, as a way to celebrate his 36th birthday.
