Inter Miami, the Major League Soccer (MLS) team, has expressed interest in signing Barcelona’s seasoned defender, Jordi Alba. However, the club faces fierce competition from top-tier clubs like Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan, and even clubs in Saudi Arabia, who are also vying for Alba’s signature.
The 34-year-old left-back recently reached an agreement with Barcelona to terminate his contract, which was originally set to expire in 2024. As Alba prepares to embark on the next chapter of his career, sources reveal that he is keeping his options open and will make a decision after the UEFA Nations League finals in the Netherlands. Currently representing Spain, Alba will face Italy in the semi-finals on Thursday.
Inter Miami has been making waves in the football world with recent signings, most notably capturing Lionel Messi’s signature last week. In addition, the club has engaged in talks with another Barcelona player, Sergio Busquets, who also announced his decision not to renew his contract with the Spanish champions mid-season.
While Inter Miami has approached Alba, ESPN reports that there have been no formal negotiations or offers on the table at this stage. The left-back is said to be considering various factors, including the upcoming European Championships in Germany next summer and the imminent arrival of his third child, as he contemplates his next destination.
Despite the allure of a move to Miami, Alba may lean towards staying in Europe for now, given the upcoming international tournament and the personal circumstances surrounding his growing family.
