The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Usman Alkali Baba has instructed all Commissioners of Police and Strategic Commanders to utilize all available resources to ensure the smooth conduct of the Governorship/State Assembly elections on March 18 across the country.

This directive was issued following a meeting held with Strategic Police Managers in Abuja on Tuesday to discuss and review strategies for more secured electoral processes. The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, released a statement in Abuja on Wednesday, confirming the IGP’s instructions.

The statement revealed that the IGP has also ordered strategic deployments according to the standard operating procedure for polling units, to protect citizens from harassment, assault and intimidation during the electoral process. Additionally, the election commanders in various states have been charged to investigate reports of harassment, assault and intimidation received from individuals and groups.

The statement further assured all Nigerians, particularly electorates and INEC officials, that the Police Force was working in partnership with other security agencies to guarantee adequate security and protection of fundamental rights nationwide.
