Nollywood star Ini Edo has been appointed the ambassador for women’s empowerment by the National Democratic Institute (NDI).
The NDI is a non-profit organization working with partners to develop countries for the purpose of increasing the effectiveness of democratic institutions.
Ini Edo’s appointment is part of the organization’s goal to increase women’s representation in public office and to also address every obstacle to women’s participation in the country’s political space.
Reacting to her appointment, the actress stated that she would work hand in hand with prominent Nigerians to ensure that women fully participate in the country’s electoral system.
She said she would bring people like former women heads of state and other NGOs on board to achieve the set goals.
“I won’t be alone; we all will be united in the cause of amending laws to enable women to compete successfully for elected office in our country,” she said.
The celebrity also mentioned that she would address the issue of violence against women, especially during elections in her new position.
