The message was released in an official statement on Monday, emphasizing the monarch’s desire to foster a stronger and more meaningful relationship between the United Kingdom and Nigeria.

In the statement, King Charles expressed his warmest regards to President Tinubu, acknowledging the weight of responsibilities that come with assuming the leadership of Nigeria.

The monarch, reflecting on the deep historical and cultural ties between the two nations as Commonwealth partners, articulated his commitment to nurturing a stronger friendship throughout President Tinubu’s tenure.

“Dear Mr. President, I would like to extend my warmest congratulations to you on your inauguration as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and to send you every possible good wish as you assume the many responsibilities of your office,” the statement read.

“As Commonwealth partners with a deep bond, I look forward to building an even stronger friendship between our countries during your Presidency.”

To demonstrate the significance of this message, a high-level United Kingdom delegation was dispatched to represent King Charles III at the presidential inauguration ceremony.

Led by Helen Grant, the Prime Minister’s trade envoy to Nigeria and special envoy on girls’ education, and accompanied by Richard Montgomery, the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, the delegation conveyed the monarch’s sincere regards to President Tinubu and Vice-President Shettima.

Helen Grant, while highlighting the importance of bilateral trade and investment partnership, expressed her commitment to strengthening economic ties between the two nations for the mutual benefit of their people.

“My priority is to strengthen our bilateral trade and investment partnership, to the mutual benefit of our two great nations, and I look forward to working alongside the new administration to further that goal,” Grant remarked.

Additionally, she affirmed her dedication to girls’ education in Nigeria, stating that her work in ensuring quality education for every girl would remain at the forefront of her Nigerian agenda.

Richard Montgomery, the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, echoed the sentiments of his delegation counterpart, pledging the United Kingdom’s unwavering support to a more prosperous and resilient Nigeria under the new administration.

Montgomery underscored the commitment to deepening partnerships in trade, development, and security between the United Kingdom and Nigeria, emphasizing the shared goal of fostering a brighter future for both nations.
