I Am Not Allowed To See Sunshine – Omoyele Sowore
Omoyele Sowore in court

#RevolutionNow convener and human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has spoken about his ordeal in detention, saying that he has not been in touch with the outside world.

Despite having been granted bail by Justice Taiwo Taiwo, Sowore has remained in custody. He arrived at the Federal High Court in Abuja today for his arraignment on the charge of treasonable felony, amongst others brought against him by the federal government.

Sowore was flanked by operatives of the Department of State Services and arrived on the fourth floor of the court building at about 9.10 am.

The activist refused to be weighed down by his current predicament and chanted “Revolution”, to which his followers replied “Now”.

Sowore stated that it would all end in the favor of the Nigerian people, holding strong to his belief that the revolution to bring about good governance would still happen.

I haven’t been in touch with my lawyers. I don’t know the charges they are bringing against me. I am not allowed to see sunshine. I have not been out except today. I am happy people are staying strong. I have no doubt this will come to an end in favor of the Nigerian people. Whether you like it or not, the revolution will happen. It is only a matter of time.

I have a bad shoulder which they broke during my arrest. They gave me no access to a telephone. No TV. No newspaper. Nothing. What is interesting is that Boko Haram commanders who are engaged in high-level terrorism have access to telephone, TV, and even cable in their cells. So, you wonder which is better: a freedom fighter or a terrorist.Omoyele Sowore – saharareporters.com

Omoyele Sowore’s continued detention in DSS custody has drawn severe condemnation, with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar alleging that the Buhari administration was persecuting judges who enforced the constitutional rights of citizens.
