As people are different and can have various opinions, conflicts are bound to occur, whether it’s with your parents, your colleague, or your partner. Fights are a common aspect of life, and there’s no way around it.
Working through conflicts is important when fights are unavoidable. However, many people don’t know how to navigate through fights healthily and end up ruining their relationship with the other person.
In some situations, such as having fights with your family or colleague would probably just result in an unpleasant relationship, fighting with your partners can end your relationship in extreme cases.
Not all fighting is considered bad and wrong as there is healthy fighting which helps in some way. In fact, fighting and voicing your opinion is quite important in certain situations. There are even multiple sports surrounding fighting such as boxing, wrestling, or mixed martial arts (MMA).
If you’re interested, you can also watch and keep up with MMA matches. Watching fights can teach us to relieve our emotions and express ourselves. Once you’ve familiarized yourself with the sport, you could try MMA betting which could earn you some extra money. Even if you try it once and don’t continue doing it, earning a little extra money is never a bad idea.
Fighting or having conflicts can also be healthy for you and your partner as it can better your relationship and help you understand each other more. However, many relationships don’t survive conflicts and end soon.
Relationships require a lot of effort and time, more so when you have disagreements with your partner. Many people refuse or don’t know how to put in the work and assume that having different opinions means that they aren’t right for each other. The two people must then move on from a heartbreak when it could’ve been avoided.
There are numerous ways to solve and deal with conflicts in a healthy manner which could save your relationship and bring you closer to each other.
Open communication with your partner
The first and foremost way to solve any argument is through communication. Conflicts mainly occur as both people in the relationship can’t understand what the other person is thinking.
Be honest with your partner and try to make them understand your feelings and thoughts. It can be hard but once you take the first step and open up, your partner will do the same. By openly communicating with each other, you can find a way to solve your conflicts calmly.
Listen to your partner
Listening to your partner’s feelings is as important as communicating and voicing your own. Make your partner feel that you’re listening to what they are saying and where they’re coming from.
After you’ve carefully listened to all of what your partner has to say, try and understand them and why they’re reacting the way they are.
Set boundaries and respect one another
When arguing with one another, the fights can turn ugly quite fast which can destroy the relationship. Often, people speak quite harshly and rudely when in anger as they might not have time to think about what they’re saying.
When harsh words are said, the damage is unrepairable no matter how much you apologize and repent after. A safe and healthy way to avoid such fights is to form boundaries and respect one another such as refraining from curse words, calling each other names, rude body language, or silent treatment.
You can let your partner know what you find unacceptable in a fight and vice versa. Respect in relationships will result in a healthy fight as you’re just arguing about the matter at hand and not calling each other out.
Choose your fights
Arguments can quickly escalate to another unresolved issue in the past. When we are trying to solve problems, we can only resolve them one at a time because we give them our complete focus.
Similarly, when you’re fighting with your partner, stay on the topic at hand so you can solve that one issue. Fighting about multiple things at the same time won’t lead to a solution and will just end up in a chaotic arguing session.
Recognize your arguments and let go when needed
Of course, arguments just happen, and it could be hard to think and act rationally in the moment. If the conflict has gone too far and it’s hard for both of you to come to a common ground, it might be wise to just let it go.
Sometimes two opinions are too different, and it could be hard to agree on something. In that situation, it’s alright to just drop the argument and move on from it. It’s important to recognize when such a situation occurs and choose to accept your relationship over the argument.
While all your fights might not turn out to be healthy, learning from your mistakes is possible. After having several fights, you can learn what you did wrong and implement these tips in your next argument. This way, you can resolve your conflicts and strengthen your relationship with your partner.
