On Wednesday, an attack by unidentified gunmen on the premises of the State House of Assembly Speaker, Hon. Timothy Owoeye’s Groove Hill Hotel, as well as other residences belonging to members of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Ilesha, Osun resulted in the loss of at least five lives.
Eyewitnesses who wished to remain anonymous reported that the attackers, who numbered about fifteen, shot indiscriminately at the hotel’s occupants before engaging in a gunfight with security operatives attached to the state speaker.
The attackers eventually retreated after hours of fighting and caused many people in the hotel and surrounding areas to flee for safety. The speaker narrowly escaped the assassination attempt, thanks to his security operatives.
The State chapter of the PDP alleged that two of their members were shot dead on Tuesday by opposition members after a campaign rally in Ilesha. The attackers also reportedly targeted residences and businesses belonging to some indigenes in Ijesha-land and inflicted varying degrees of injuries on them.
