On Wednesday, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano state announced a donation of N250 million to support the victims of the recent fire disasters at Singer and Kurmi markets in the state. The announcement was made through a statement released to the media by the state commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Muhammad Garba. The donation was intended to provide immediate relief to the affected traders who lost their valuables in the fire.
To ensure the disbursement of the funds, the leadership of the traders’ associations in the market will be presented with the cheques by the governor at the Government House in Kano. Governor Ganduje expressed his sympathy to the victims of the inferno and called on individuals and organizations to support the traders in any way possible.
Furthermore, the governor set up a committee to assess the situation and recommend further support to the affected traders. In response to the donation, Adamu Abdullahi, one of the affected traders, expressed his gratitude to the governor and the state government for their support. He expressed hope that the committee would recommend more support for them during this challenging time.
It is noteworthy that the devastating fire had destroyed over 1,500 shops in the two markets, leaving many traders without any means of livelihood. Governor Ganduje’s gesture is expected to go a long way in easing the burden of the affected traders and help them to get back on their feet. This donation serves as an example of the role of the government in supporting its citizens during trying times.
