Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, is currently on medical leave, according to a statement released by the Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Olamide Oladiji. In the statement signed by Oladiji himself and issued in Akure, the state capital, the Speaker addressed concerns regarding the governor’s absence and his decision not to transfer power to his deputy.
The Ondo State House of Assembly confirmed that they received a letter from Governor Akeredolu, informing them of his intention to proceed on a 21-day medical leave. The leave, which began on June 7, 2023, is scheduled to end on July 6, 2023. The Speaker clarified that the extension of the leave until July 6 was due to the public holidays observed on June 12 (Democracy Day) and during Eid el Kabir on June 28 and 29, 2023.
During the governor’s absence, Deputy Governor Lucky Ayedatiwa has been entrusted with the responsibility of acting as the governor. Governor Akeredolu has expressed his confidence in the deputy governor’s ability to fulfill the duties of the office. The governor has assured the public that he will resume his official duties on July 6, 2023, upon his return from medical treatment abroad.
The medical leave of Governor Akeredolu comes at a time when the state is grappling with various challenges, including security issues and developmental projects. However, the deputy governor, Lucky Ayedatiwa, is expected to provide leadership and ensure the smooth running of the state’s affairs during the governor’s absence.
The Ondo State House of Assembly has urged the citizens of Ondo State to remain calm and supportive during this period. They have emphasized that the governor’s decision to prioritize his health is essential for his ability to effectively carry out his duties in the future.
This development has sparked discussions among political analysts and the general public, with some expressing concern about the impact of the governor’s absence on the governance of the state. However, many have also expressed their well wishes for Governor Akeredolu’s recovery and their confidence in Deputy Governor Ayedatiwa’s ability to manage the state’s affairs in the interim.
As the people of Ondo State eagerly anticipate Governor Akeredolu’s return, they remain hopeful that his medical treatment will be successful and that he will continue to lead the state with renewed vigor upon his resumption of office.
